In the 1970s, 22-year-old Nour came to the German region Oberpfalz from Istanbul to work. She lives in a dormitory with women from Spain, Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey. The working conditions in the factory and the wages are not fair. Inspired by the women’s strike in Thüringen in the 1920s, Nour and her friends fight for workers’ rights.

With her debut “Die Optimistinnen (The Optimists)”, Gün Tank celebrates the many women who helped to build and change this country and who are hardly to be found in German history.
